RECOMMENDED EQUIPMENT

Omaha Broomball is able to provide the minimum required equipment to play the sport. Broomball requires a broomball stick, broomball shoes, and a helmet. A hockey helmet with a cage or bubble is strongly recommend, but other types of helmets such as a lacrosse or bike helmet would suffice. Players typically play in their favorite hockey jersey or even t-shirts. Ideally you want something long sleeve and relatively lightweight. For pants, roller hockey pants, loose sweatpants, or athletic pants are encouraged.

All equipment below may be purchased from an online retailer such as Broomball.com or Midwest Broomball. Omaha Broomball can get you a discount, just reach out to us about it.

Broomball Stick

Sticks are made from aluminum and range from 46 to 52 inches in length

Broomball Shoes

The sole of the shoes are made from a rubbery foam substance that gives players some grip on the ice. You’re still going to slide a little bit.

Broomball Helmet

Most players typically use a hockey helmet with a cage or a bubble.

Additional Equipment

Players are encouraged to use other protective equipment such as gloves, elbow pads, knee pads, or shin pads. The protective equipment doesn’t need to be specific to broomball or hockey. Hockey, lacrosse, or even winter gloves would suffice. Volleyball knee pads and soccer shin pads can also be used. Broomball is a very safe sport and we encourage players to wear the protective equipment that will make feel safest.

Goalie Equipment

CHEST PROTECTOR

Goalies may wear a hockey goalie chest protector, hockey shoulder pads, or equivalent. With shots sometimes hitting 70 mph, goalies definitely can benefit from some extra padding!

BLOCKER

Goalies may use a hockey goalie blocker.

CATCHER

Goalies cannot use a standard hockey goalie catcher. Many goalies opt to use a soccer goalie glove on their catcher hand to provide extra padding. In our short-ice league, goalies are allowed to use a baseball or softball glove.

LEG PADS

Goalies cannot use standard hockey goalie leg pads. They can use hockey skater combo knee/shin pads or other separate knee and shin pads for protection.
